BOSTON (January 4, 2017) – The Boston Cannons on Wednesday agreed to a one-year contract with defenseman Brodie Merrill for the 2017 Major League Lacrosse season.
Merrill, 35, has played 12 seasons in MLL and has been with the Cannons since 2014. Last year, he collected 60 groundballs and scored three goals in 12 games. A native of Ontario, Merrill is the all-time league leader in groundballs (866) and was named the Warrior Defensive Player of the Year in six consecutive seasons from 2006 to 2011.
On May 14 against Rochester last season, Merrill scored a game-tying, two-point goal that traveled the length of the field at the end of regulation time. The Cannons went on to win the game in overtime.
