Launch clinch first postseason berth in dramatic win


GAME RECAP

BOSTON (July 29, 2017) – The Florida Launch surrendered a 10-goal lead but managed to clinch the first postseason berth in the franchise’s history in an 18-17 win over Boston on Saturday night. 

Rookie Nick Mariano netted the game-winning goal at 10:07 in the fourth quarter to give the Launch their eighth win of the season. 

Florida became the second team to clinch a spot in the 2017 postseason after Denver earned a spot last week. 

The Launch jumped out to a 16-6 lead six minutes into the third quarter. The Cannons then scored 11 straight goals, capped by a Scott Bieda goal at 6:17 in the fourth quarter to give them their first lead of the game. 

Just over a minute after Bieda’s go-ahead goal, Kieran McArdle scored his fourth goal of the game to tie the score at 17. Mariano then scored the winning goal minutes later. 

PLAYERS OF NOTE

Kieran McArdle was named the Coca-Cola Player of the Game with four goals, four assists and the game-tying goal in the fourth quarter. His eight points matched his season high. 

Dylan Molloy had two goals and an assist. 

Max Seibald had two goals, including a two-pointer. He leads the league with five two-pointers this year.

In the second game of his pro career, Cal Dearth had two goals for the Cannons.
