BOSTON (January 9, 2018) – The Atlanta Blaze named Jim Pfeifer president of the team today and he will assume his role immediately. Pfeifer is a professional sports executive with 30 years of experience in the industry who previously served as Blaze president from December 2016 through May 2017.
“North Georgia has seen tremendous growth in the popularity of lacrosse in recent years and we are excited to provide a fun, affordable product at the professional level to complement that growth at the grassroots level,” Pfeifer said. “I’m very excited to continue working in the Atlanta area and to help bring the Steinfeld Trophy to Blaze fans.”
Pfeifer spent 12 years in the Atlanta Hawks’ front office, originally as vice president of marketing, advertising and branding and then vice president of partner integration in 2011, where he managed both corporate and broadcast partners. Prior to the Hawks, the NHL’s Atlanta Thrashers hired Pfeifer in 1998 as the director of marketing, where he was tasked with promoting an expansion franchise in a city with limited exposure to ice hockey.
Before going to Atlanta, Pfeifer spent nine years at Madison Square Garden working with both the New York Knicks and New York Rangers.
This past season, the Blaze were in contention for the franchise’s first trip to the postseason until the second to last game of the year. Attackman Kevin Rice led the club and finished tied for eighth in the league in points (47), despite playing in only 10 games. Rice was one of five Blaze players to play in the 2017 MLL All-Star game, joining Matt Mackrides, Adam Ghitelman, James Pannell and Atlanta native Scott Ratliff.
Atlanta opens its third MLL season at home on April 22 when the Florida Launch travel to Fifth Third Bank Stadium in Kennesaw.
